Surgery

Age is reflected in the entire face, but it is particularly visible around the eyes. The upper and lower eyelids reveal at first glance how old we are. Changes in the appearance of the eyelids are influenced not only by skin laxity. The main contributing factor is adipose tissue that shifts from within the eye socket through an age-weakened system of connective tissue septa linking the protective apparatus of the eye to the facial bones. Removal of fat herniation and excess skin can produce spectacular results. In many patients, eyelid surgery provides a much more pronounced rejuvenating effect than a facelift.

In addition to reversing the signs of aging, plastic surgery also addresses the restoration of eyelid mobility, that is, the ability of the upper eyelid to open properly. The methods used in such procedures depend on many factors, primarily on the cause of eyelid drooping, which can be classified as congenital or acquired with age.

Examples of surgical outcomes are presented in the photographs below.

A significant part of my practice involves revision surgeries to correct the results of previous plastic procedures. This is an example of a patient whose lower eyelids were treated with a fat graft from the lower abdomen to smooth out minor tear troughs.
